— a note —

I moved to the U.S. nine years ago and with that I left behind my family, friends and loved ones. Over time, I got busy building my life and career and with that the moments with my family also started diminishing. There were just video calls and one trip a year to go over countless stories that my parents wanted to share.

I lost my granddad in 2021 while I was in the U.S. and with him, I lost a piece of my life. He had so many stories to share yet I only got to hear a fraction of them through my dad. A couple of years later my dad turned 60 and I had a realization that there might come a time where I would lose his stories too and maybe my kids would never get to hear them.

So I decided to start on this journey. I began recording my parents and hearing from them about their wonderful stories of their childhood, school, home, family, hopes, dreams, career and so much more. Not only did that help me feel closer to them but it was also a wonderful moment for them to recollect all those memories from their past.

I want to get more people on this mission where everyone gets a chance to preserve their family's stories and pass them along to the next generation. These stories carry so much fun, values and wisdom in them and we need to keep them and cherish them forever.

Have any of you felt the same? What have you done to bridge that gap and get to know your parents better while you still can?

I am trying to build something to bridge this and I would love to hear from you.
